RYA DAY SKIPPER

An elementary theory course designed to give those who are new to yachting, both power and sail, knowledge of:

• Seamanship

• Chart-work

• Position fixing

• Tides

• Electronic navigation

• Coastal navigation

• Pilotage

• Navigation in Restricted Visibility

• Weather forecasting and meteorology

• International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea

This course gives you enough knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day. Knowledge of lights is included in case you arrive back in darkness.

We use the latest visual learning aids which complement the standard RYA literature which enables the more complicated sections of the syllabus to be tackled confidently. During the course you will have access to chart plotter enabled laptops...

Courses are run over 6 days (minimum 40 hours + 2 assessment papers):

3 weekends or Intensive course  09:00 - 17:30...

Cost £240 per student (Included all course materials - minimum 4 students on a course).

Equipment needed: Note pad, 2b pencil, Eraser, and Portland plotter/divider kit.

If required I can put a pack together for £20 available to purchase on the day (1 week notice required).

If you require me to travel to you, my travelling expenses (based on a two way journey from Dover town centre):

First 20 miles no cost,  then £0.40 per mile, shared by all on the course...

For courses held in Dover, we can arrange discounted accommodation with lift to/from training centre as required or visit the link below.
